SAP Fiori, CDS and RAP development
On S/4HANA we model data with CDS views, expose it as OData services with RAP, and build SAP Fiori apps on top. Where the standard has to be extended without being changed, we build extensions on SAP BTP.
Scope
The aim is a simple screen for the user and a clean core underneath: later upgrades shouldn't break custom development.
CDS views
We build the data model close to the database: associations, calculated fields, access control (DCL) and annotations. The same model serves both the Fiori app and reporting.
RAP and OData services
Services with validations, actions and draft support built with the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model, published as OData V2 or V4.
SAP Fiori elements and SAPUI5
Fiori elements for list, object page and analytical screens; freestyle SAPUI5 apps where the interface needs it.
Fiori launchpad and standard apps
Activating and extending standard Fiori apps, and rolling them out to users through catalogs, groups and roles.
Extensions on SAP BTP
Side-by-side extensions that leave the core untouched; apps that talk to S/4HANA through services.
Clean core
We limit development to released APIs and extension points. We use the same yardstick in upgrade analysis.

Frequently asked questions
Can SAP Fiori be used on SAP ECC?
Yes. With SAP Gateway, OData services (SEGW) and Fiori apps run on ECC too. RAP needs S/4HANA and a current ABAP platform, so we design ECC projects accordingly.
Fiori elements or SAPUI5?
For standard patterns such as lists and object pages, Fiori elements is faster to build and easier to maintain. Where the flow doesn't fit the standard patterns, we write a freestyle SAPUI5 app.
When do you need SAP BTP?
An extension on BTP makes sense when it has to live independently of the core system, combines several systems, or is opened to external users. Otherwise, in-system development is usually enough.
